They say as you get older you let go of your inhibitions. Well 2015 was our 80th year and we are testament to that phrase. What a crazy, eventful and fun filled twelve months we’ve had in Willie Duggan. Below is a snippet of what’s past and an insight into what we’re planning for 2016!

This year saw us complete some really nice work. St Catherine’s Church in Dublin, a beautiful restoration project, was highly commended by the RIAI (The Royal Institute of Architects, Ireland). It was also featured on national TV where the lighting was singled out as the outstanding feature. The VIP Lounge at Wimbledon was another great project to be involved in. We watched our lights shine for 2 weeks as the Lounge was a regular feature on BBC2 during the Grand Slam Tournament. Between Ireland and the UK, the projects were wide ranging from commercial fit out, to hospitality and residential and we’ve some really lovely projects in the pipeline for 2016!

We took a stand in the expo event which was part of the RIAI annual conference. Putting our best foot forward, our stand was a talking point and we were awarded for our presentation and products. Willie, our director, also gave CPD presentations over both days and enjoyed massive engagement, we think there might be a future in this for him!

We were also nominated for supplier of the year at the prestigious annual Fitout Awards in November. We’ll be hoping to go one better at the same event next year where we’ll also have a number of high profile projects competing for the bigger prizes.

Not to put ourselves under too much pressure, we held our first Showroom Event two weeks after the RIAI expo. The preparation paid off and the event went down a storm. We had attendees from all sectors including architects, interiors, craft producers, the National Arts council, institutes of technology and fellow suppliers.

Marc Ni Riuan, president of the Irish Design Institute talked us through a few of his projects then Willie presented on the importance of Lighting Design. The craic was had and debate continued late into the night.

The showroom event highlighted to us the value and potential of our premises. Our vision is to put the showroom central to our service with in-house design workshops and lectures attracting consultants and students to Ireland’s Lighting Hub, fittingly located in its creative capital, Kilkenny. We intend to add a darkroom, mock-up rooms, a lecture area and consulting rooms to facilitate this.

Digital is an area we’re always improving with developments both on and offline. We are looking to implement a login area online for our most valued customers and adding a new BIM modelling and visualisations package to our design offer. We also have some really exciting supply and design projects in the pipeline to grow customer relationships. Looks like we’ll be busy next year, might just take a well earned break first!
