Inspiration: Who is your design hero? I don’t have heroes. But I think that Rem Koolhaas is the towering design genius of our time. In terms of design publishing, Tyler Brûlé is the person I most admire.

Getting out of bed: Why do you do it? There’s just so much to do!

Luck or hard work: How did you get your big break? Definitely luck. I was fired from my job at what turned out to be the perfect moment to launch a design website.

Life: What inspires you? I don’t like the word “inspire” and try never to use it but actually I’m interested in everything and inspiration can come from anywhere.

Looking back: What project are you most proud off? Launching www.dezeen.com because it proved that a bad situation can be turned into a good one and therefore you can control your destiny

Relax: Cinema or Couch? Garden

Favourites: Colour, Film, Music and Book? Navy blue, Easy Rider, Jake Bugg (right now), any Robert Harris novel (right now).

Technology: Apple or android? Apple

Taking Notes: Handwritten or tablet? I take very few notes but when I do it’s a mixture of both. I don’t recommend this strategy.

Dinner: If you could throw a dinner party for any three people, who would they be? Whoever the three most powerful people in the world are, just out of curiosity, to see how they behave in a relaxed, social situation.

Other life: If you were not an editor-in-chief what you would be? I like to think that had things been different, I’d be a songwriter.

I can’t live if living is without? What three things…. Family, house, garden.
